Landis Refining Co, Inc. - FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What metals do you buy?
A: We purchase any scrap that might contain the precious metals gold, palladium, platinum or silver. Unfortunately, titanium and chrome cobalt have no precious metal value.

Q: Can teeth be attached to the scrap?
A: Yes. Any nonmetal material is burnt off during the melt process.

Q: Is there a minimum amount required when mailing scrap?
A: No (with the exception of filings and orthodontics). That’s the simplicity of our mail-in program!

Q: How long does it take before we receive payment?
A: Upon receipt of merchandise, payment is usually made within a week. Our only exeptions are filings, sweeps and orthodontic material which take a little longer to process.

Q: Do I have enough scrap for a coin?
A: Most likely. Coins are minted as small as one tenth of an ounce.

Q: Do nongold or “white” crown and bridge have any value? Should I bother saving this material?
A: Yes, you should! Usually it is a mixture known as “semiprecious,” which contains silver, palladium and a small percentage of gold.

Q: Can I order more than one collecting jar? I have multiple operatories and would like one at each station.
A: The containers are free and you can order as many as you like. Just contact us!

Q: Can a pickup be arranged at my office? I’d rather not mail the jar.
A: Of course. We’ll be happy to schedule a free, insured UPS pickup on your behalf. We only need one day’s advance notice.

Q: Will you buy a patient’s single crown or bridge? If yes, how do we send it to you?
A: We have a program geared for small quantities. Just order our free Patient Scrap Mailers.

Q: How can I get a concept of my scrap’s value? I’ve never sold before.
A: Let us know you’d like an estimate before we do the final processing. If for any reason you’d like your scrap returned, it will be intact in its original form.

Q: Do you buy amalgam?
A: Only as a courtesy if it’s accompanying other metals. Its value is negligible. For large quantities that are exclusively amalgam, we can refer you to a company that specializes in amalgam processing.
